Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)

Introduction

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central sector scheme launched by the Government of India to provide direct income support to small and marginal farmers across the country. The scheme aims to ensure financial security for farmers by offering monetary assistance directly into their bank accounts.

Objectives

• To provide income support to all landholding farmer families.
• To supplement the financial needs of farmers for procurement of agricultural inputs and other expenses.
• To promote the well-being of farmers and enhance their livelihood security.

Benefits

• Income Support: Eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each.
• Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The amount is credited directly into the farmers' bank accounts.
• Coverage: Initially for small and marginal farmers, now extended to all landholding farmer families.
• No Contribution Required: Farmers do not need to contribute anything to avail of the benefits.

Eligibility

Eligible Beneficiaries:

• All landholding farmer families in India. Definition of family: Husband, wife, and minor children.

Exclusions:

• Institutional landholders.
• Former and present constitutional post holders.
• Serving or retired government employees (except Class IV/multi-tasking staff).
• Income tax payers in the previous assessment year.
• Professionals such as doctors, engineers, chartered accountants, etc.

Application Process

1. Farmers can apply through Common Service Centers (CSCs) or their respective State Agriculture Department.
2. Self-registration is available on the PM-KISAN official portal.
3. Verification is conducted at the state level before approval.
