Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY)

Introduction

The Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) was launched in 2007 under the National Development Council (NDC) to promote agricultural development by encouraging states to increase investment in agriculture and allied sectors. The scheme aims to ensure 4% annual growth in the agriculture sector by offering financial assistance to states for strategic agricultural development.

Objectives

  • To encourage states to allocate more resources to agriculture and allied activities.
  • To ensure holistic development in agriculture through flexible funding to states.
  • To promote crop diversification, innovation, and research in farming techniques.
  • To reduce risk in agriculture through better water management, storage facilities, and infrastructure development.
  • To integrate agriculture with allied sectors such as fisheries, dairy, and horticulture.

Benefits

  • Increased Investment: States receive additional central funding for agricultural projects.
  • Financial Flexibility: States can use funds according to their specific agricultural needs.
  • Infrastructure Development: Support for cold storage, irrigation facilities, farm mechanization, and agri-marketing.
  • Improved Productivity: Funding is provided for research, innovation, and high-yield seed promotion.
